Dr Gregory M Cario MBBS FRANZCOG is a founder and director of SWEC. As a pioneer in advanced laparoscopic surgery in Australia, he was one of the first surgeons to perform the laparoscopic burch colposuspension, laparoscopic tubal reanastomosis and laparoscopic mesh sacrocolpopexy procedures; allowing many women diagnosed with surgical cases to be treated in a faster, less painful and practical manner.
He has performed over 500 laparoscopic burch colposuspensions, laparoscopic hysterectomies and just as many pelvic floor reconstructions.
Dr. Cario lectures and demonstrates widely at conferences both in Australia and around the world presenting his published research, which covers all aspects of laparoscopic surgery.
Dr David Rosen MBBS FRANZCOG was the first SWEC Research Fellow. After completing his two-year training at SWEC he took up a Fellowship at the Royal Surrey Count Hospital in 1998 specializing in the laser treatment of severe endometriosis. Whilst abroad, Dr. Rosen published and presented research on laparoscopic surgery at major medical conferences. When he returned to Australia he took on a position as specialist laparoscopic surgeon at SWEC.
He has extensive experience in all aspects of laparoscopic surgery and has helped to train doctors and to popularise the hysteroscopic Essure technique throughout Australia. He is a major contributor to the workshop and runs the Registrar training course.
Dr Danny Chou MBBS MRCOG FRANZCOG was the second SWEC Research Fellow. He also completed his 2-year training and then went overseas to further his experience. His video presentations of surgery and anatomy are legendary both in Australia and overseas, where he has presented widely. He has also published extensive research on all aspects of laparoscopic surgery. Upon his return to Australia in 2001 he took up a post as a specialist laparoscopic surgeon at SWEC and is a major contributor to the research training and workshops run by SWEC.
Dr Michael Cooper FRANZCOG is a Visiting Medical Officer and Head of Endoscopic Surgery at King George V Hospital and has appointments to St Vincent 's Private Hospital and St Luke's Hospital. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sydney University and Head of Gynaecology at St Luke's Hospital.
His major clinical and research interests include the use of endoscopic surgery particularly in the treatment of endometriosis. He has performed over 1000 advanced laparoscopic procedures including excision of endometriosis, hysterectomy, colposuspension, pelvic floor reconstruction and lymph node dissection.
Dr Geoffrey D Reid MBBS MRCOG FRACOG is a gynaecologist in practice in Central Sydney, South West Sydney and the Southern Highlands of NSW. He is the director of Gynaecological Endoscopy at Liverpool Hospital and has appointments at St Luke's Hospital - Potts Point, Hurstville Private Hospital - Hurstville, Southern Highlands Prive Hospital - Bowral, John James Memorial Hospital - Canberra and The Wesley Hospital - Brisbane.
His major clinical interest is the treatment of women with endometriosis. More recently he has returned to the treatment of couples requiring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART/IVF) - a service that many women with endometriosis require.

Dr Matthew Morgan FRACS, colorectal surgeon
Dr Morgan is a consultant Colorectal surgeon at Bankstown Hospital as well as being part of SWEC. He has extensive experience with severe endometriosis affecting the bowel and Pouch of Douglas. He has one of Australias largest series of Laparoscopic disc and segmental rectosigmoid resections for endometriosis affecting the bowel.
Dr Peter Aslan FRACS, urologist
Dr Aslan is a consultant Urologist at St George Hospital and Sydney Urology as well as being part of SWEC. He has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic surgical treatment of lower urinary tract endometriosis as well as specializing in Laparoscopic Nephrectomy and other lower urinary tract conditions.
Dr Jenny Cook MBBS FRANZCOG is a Visiting Medical Officer at Prince of Wales Hospital. She completed a Laparoscopic Fellowship at Flinders Endogynaecology, Adelaide and was a Clinical Lecturer at Flinders University. She has published and presented widely both nationally and internationally in Gynaecological Laparoscopy. Her major research interest is Laparoscopic Pelvic Floor Repair. She served on the Board of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society.

Dr Mark Carlton MBBS BScAg FRCOG FRANZCOG is a founder and director of SWEC. Considered one of the most senior laparoscopic surgeons in the country, Dr. Carlton’s wealth of experience in traditional gynaecological surgery has contributed significantly to the pioneering research into laparoscopic surgery in Australia over the last 10 years.
In particular Dr. Carlton has been instrumental in the advanced developments of laparoscopic burch colposuspension, total laparoscopic hysterectomy and pelvic floor reconstructions.
He has published his research and findings on laparoscopic surgery extensively, and helped to develop the very popular Carlton/SWEC knot pusher.
Professor Michael Chapman MB BS MD FRCOG FRANZCOG CREI is a founder and director of SWEC. After completing his training in Adelaide, Prof. Chapman moved to the UK to broaden his medical experience. Here he became Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of London. After 15 years abroad he returned to Australia to take up a role as Professor at the UNSW, St George Hospital.
Prof. Chapman’s clinical interests include infertility and reproductive endocrinology. During his career he has run IVF services in London, Naples, Jeddah and Sydney.
Currently, he runs his own private obstetric practice as well as continuing to care for women in the public sector. As well as practicing, Prof. Chapman lectures regularly at national and international meetings and has published in excess of eighty peer-reviewed papers as well as being involved in a number of textbooks and lay publications.
