The Sydney Women's Endosurgery Centre (SWEC) is a specialised gynaecological unit with expertise in Laparoscopic or Endoscopic surgery (also known as "keyhole surgery"). Our faculty consists of highly experienced Gynae-Endoscopic Surgeons who are internationally recognised for their expertise. Members of SWEC have been the pioneer in many new laparoscopic surgical techniques in Australia including laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic urinary incontinence surgery as well as laparoscopic vaginal prolapse repairs. Our faculty members are regularly invited as special guest speakers and surgical demonstrators at both national and international endoscopic meetings and conferences. |

SWEC is supported by the Academic unit of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George Hospital within the University of New South Wales. Research and evaluation of surgical techniques is constantly carried out in attempt to improve the surgical techniques. Over the last two years SWEC has produced more research output than any other group in Australia. SWEC is a highly regarded training centre where regular training workshops in advanced gynaecological endosurgery are organised. Workshops are attended by doctors from overseas as well as from with in Australia. Since their inception in 1996 over 40 specialist doctors have been trained in laparoscopic techniques, and more than 250 participants have attended. SWEC strives to be a vehicle for cutting edge new technology
with a TVT/ Gynemesh module, an Essure module and a framework to
introduce new validated procedures to SWEC courses after they have been
successfully trialled by SWEC surgeons. |
